Our Story

Meet Alex and Ruthie Buffum, the team behind Buffum Fence—a venture born out of Alex’s teenage summer job that turned into a lifelong passion. Back in high school, fencing was just a gig, but it soon became second nature for Alex, thanks to his dad's cattle farm where they fenced and maintained their land and leased properties. And let's not forget his aunt's horse farm, where he learned all the ins and outs of safe horse fencing and installation.

The idea for Buffum Fence sparked when friends kept asking Alex for fence help. Turns out, the valley was seriously lacking reliable options. Fueled by the frustration of folks struggling to find good fence contractors, Alex and Ruthie took matters into their own hands and launched Buffum Fence in the fall of 2021.

It didn't take long for them to realize the valley was hungry for more fence styles and improved standards. Come spring 2022, they teamed up with I Dig Texas and became the local vendor for Texas Post Drivers—a hydraulic skid steer attachment that's a powerhouse in efficiency. Buffum Fence was soon pounding posts like nobody's business, offering the same quality equipment for sale to farmers and fence contractors seeking top-notch post-pounders.

At Buffum Fence, they keep things local and down-to-earth. This family-run company prioritizes customer service, running just 2-3 crews to ensure top-notch work. You'll find Alex getting his hands dirty on every project, from digging holes to checking in on supplies. Ruthie, with her roots in a finish carpenter family, is the jack-of-all-trades—handling calls, pounding posts on-site, and pulling wire. It's a hands-on operation, and they wouldn't have it any other way.

They love to build fences and find joy in their work. While some folks may be after the cheapest option, Buffum Fence is all about offering the highest quality at the best price. Forget about cutting corners; they're here to deliver fences that become a lasting part of the community.

Buffum Fence proudly calls Columbia Falls home, and they love rolling up their sleeves to work with friends and neighbors. It's more than just fencing for them; it's about building connections and enhancing the community they call their own.
